A Visit to an Ancient Citadel

252 từ7 câu hỏi
Last weekend, my class travelled to Hue to see the Imperial Citadel, one of the most famous historic monuments in Viet Nam. Our guide, Mr Bao, explained that the complex covers more than five hundred hectares and that its walls were built to protect the royal family. Walking through the ancient gate, I felt as if I had stepped into another century. Many buildings were badly damaged during the wars, so restoring them has taken decades. Experts still use traditional methods to repair the wooden roofs and the fine stone carvings. To pay for these projects, the local government has launched a crowdfunding campaign, and thousands of people from all over the country have donated small amounts. I was surprised to learn that many donors are teenagers who want to preserve their heritage for future generations. In the afternoon, we watched a performance of royal court music, one of the performing arts that UNESCO has recognised. The musicians, dressed in colourful costumes, played instruments that are hundreds of years old. Afterwards, a festive market near the river gave us the chance to try local dishes and buy handmade lanterns. My favourite moment was meeting an old craftsman, who showed us how to make paper flowers. He said that the hardest thing is to find young people who are willing to learn the craft. That conversation made me realise that heritage lives not only in buildings but also in skills and stories. I hope to return next year to volunteer at the citadel.
