Last year our school club decided to protect the river near our town. When we visited the river bank, we could see plastic bags and toxic substances in the water. Pollution is bad because it hurts fish and other species that live there. After we picked up the rubbish, the bank looked clean and green again. While some friends cleaned the bank, others made posters about single-use bottles. When residents walked past, they read our posters. The river is also a habitat for birds and small animals. Trees near the water help them, because trees release oxygen into the air. Our teacher told us that a healthy ecosystem needs clean water and green plants. She also thinks that small habits help the planet, so some of us now walk to school. So we keep our carbon footprint small. We will keep working at the river until the water is very clean. Many friends participate in the club every Saturday morning. If you live near the river, please participate with your family!
